Description
The chore coat first hit the scene in the late 19th century France. Meant for laborers, farmers and railroad workers alike, chore coats took a beating and mostly made from twills and canvas they made sure to stand the test of time. A slightly roomier fit, larger waist pockets and two chest pockets- the chore coat is meant to be the perfect outerwear layering piece that can hold many, many things.
Also in the late 19th century, the “hickory stripe” was born but we like to call it the railroad stripe. It was used to make everything from clothing to hats for train engineers and railroad workers. The fabric is woven to be durable like denim but not super heavyweight.
While it's 100% cotton, this fabric is durable but it doesn't require a lot of breaking in, if any at all. It isn't too stiff, there's just enough starch in the finishing of the fabric to hold some crisp lines but soon that will wear off and you'll get some good drape.
What we love about the railroad stripe is that it goes with pretty much anything, neutrals, grays and blues, this coat adds just enough pop and character without being too bold.
