Description
This is not your dad’s stiff office shirt. We designed our button down to be a democratic fit that is neither slim nor oversized, something you can actually move in. Two pleats beneath the back yoke give you extra room through the shoulders, so the shirt wears casual but sharp. The collar does not button down, which keeps the look relaxed.
Made from a sturdy 5 oz gingham fabric (98 percent cotton, 2 percent spandex), it feels more substantial than its weight suggests. The cloth is woven in a traditional plain weave, the simplest and most balanced construction, which gives gingham its crisp check and durable hand. That plain weave, combined with the added stretch, makes the shirt structured yet easy to wear. Since the fabric was sourced from stock, the exact country of origin is unknown. What we do know is that it is strong, breathable, and built to last. Transparency matters more to us than inventing a story.
Every shirt is sewn in San Francisco, inside a factory in SOMA that we visit often. Keeping production here matters because the local garment industry is fragile. After covid, many skilled sewers retired and few younger workers stepped in to continue the craft. By producing locally, we are doing our part to keep that tradition alive.
The details matter here: a chest pocket on the wearer’s left, clean finishing inside the sleeve and armhole, and a neatly constructed sleeve cap. The shirt closes with natural corozo buttons, often called “vegetable ivory,” made from the nut of the tagua palm. Corozo has the feel and durability of horn but is fully plant based, biodegradable, and far stronger than plastic. They are also expensive, but we think they are worth it.
This is the kind of shirt that works anywhere, on its own, layered under a jacket, tucked or untucked. Built for everyday wear, with craftsmanship that rewards the closer look.
