We found this Italian wool at the very end of last season. We don’t buy huge yardage because small batch is the whole point, but this fabric was too good to let slip away. We knew if we didn’t grab some of it then, every last yard would be gone by this year. And we were right.
This chore coat is cut from 100 percent Italian wool and it is not pretending to be lightweight. At 17oz, it’s a true cold-weather workhorse. We wore it through the middle of a New England winter with nothing more than a thin layer underneath, and it didn’t flinch.
To make every inch of the yardage count, we added leftover khaki selvedge from this summer’s trucker run. You’ll see the red and white ticker along the top of the waist pockets, pulling in the plaid in a way that feels intentional and a little unexpected. The khaki accent pockets bring a clean, neutral pop that sets the whole thing off.
The coat is left unlined to keep the wool front and center. This fabric is surprisingly soft for a 100 percent wool, but you’ll still probably want a long sleeve underneath. It has just enough texture to remind you it’s the real thing, without the usual itch factor.
We only bought 35 yards of this fabric which means production is extremely limited. A few will land with our retail partners and only a small handful will be available at DD HQ. If you want one, now’s the moment.
Fit & Sizing
Our chore coat is slightly oversized by design, so if you prefer something a little more fitted, we recommend that you size down.
