It's been a minute since we've shared updates about what's new with Deco Denim, so we thought we'd do a roundup. Read on to learn more about what we've been working on!
Deco Denim in the Wild
You can now find Deco Denim at three incredible retail shops in the Bay Area:
Fibers of Being | 645 Divisadero St, San Francisco, CA 94117
Fibers of Being holds a special place in our story. Elizabeth, the owner, was the very first retailer to carry our products. She took a chance on the brand early on, and we'll always be grateful for that. Her shop is beautifully curated, with a focus on intentional design, and we're honored to have Deco Denim carried there.
Trove | 423 1st St W, Sonoma, CA 95476
This one also means a lot to us. Rayna and Lauren, the amazing women behind Trove, gave Deco its very first popup opportunity when all we had were tote bags and t-shirts. It was one of our very first steps into retail, and they've continued to support the brand ever since. Their store is beautiful, and their belief in small businesses runs deep.
Pretty Penny Clothing | 2981 College Ave, Berkeley, CA 94705
Sarah, the owner of Pretty Penny, is passionate about small business and goes out of her way to support women-owned brands. She brought Deco in right away and has been a supportive sounding board throughout the journey. We're so grateful for her trust and encouragement.
Fog City Trading Co. | 1 Ferry Plaza Shop 37 (in the Ferry Building), San Francisco, CA 94105
This is our other San Francisco retail spot, and it's a special one. We have our own dedicated shop-within-a-shop, where you can find every single product we make. It also houses our curated vintage collection, spanning the 1950's through the early 2000's, everything from tourist tees, denim, silk ties, and more.
Behind the Scenes
One of the biggest challenges we've faced has been related to production. Finding a factory that has skilled workers who are treated ethically, where the management is fully honest and communicative, has been incredibly difficult. Case in point, in the past four years, we've worked with five different factories. Right now we're working with two in tandem, hoping that dividing production will help us avoid delays if problems arise with one or the other.
To be honest, it's been exhausting--mentally and physically. Weekly travel to LA has taken a toll, and juggling everything behind the scenes hasn't always been easy. But we're still here, still building, and still committed to creating thoughtful, high quality pieces that feel good to wear.
Lastly, we just want to say thanks for being here. Whether you've supported Deco by shopping with us, sharing the brand with your friends, or just following along, it truly means everything.
With the utmost appreciation,
Sarah Mattes, Founder of Deco Denim
